We are Art Sindlinger & Judy Kim. Mostly Art here in the blog. You can find Judy on Instagram @comidaycompras. Judy was a bilingual teacher back in Chicago. Here she is a renaissance woman filling her time with volunteering, baking, and various racket sports. I worked in parts of the digital/advertising/media world. Now I'm in tourism. And we operate a small retail operation focusing on the gorgeous barro vidriado de Capula, Michoacán.
We enjoy traveling. And like many people in the early-to-mid 2000s, we Tivo'd the hell out of House Hunters International. At some point our vacations started to include meetings with real estate agents and looking at condos for sale, thinking about living in the places we visited. Renting apartments rather than staying in hotels years before Airbnb brought that model to the mainstream. We thought about Buenos Aires, Santiago, Montevideo, among others as possible destinations.
Then in the summer of 2013 the light bulb went off during what was our third or fourth visit to Mexico City. Why not here? Weather is amazing. Food is amazing. Vibe is amazing. And unlike the aforementioned South American cities, it's only a few hours by air back to the US. So we had our destination decided. But no particular plan about how to get there (now here). Until strangely enough maybe two or three months after our revelation, the cosmos called my bluff and presented us with an opportunity to relocate to Mexico City (aka, la Ciudad de México, aka la CDMX). As Yogi Berra said, when you arrive at a fork in the road, take it. We did. And here we are.
Now in 2025, having stopped actively engaging in most social networks for a few years (Art, not Judy), I'm bringing back the idea of presenting myself (ourselves, sometimes) via blog.
