Arrival day in Gdansk, Poland: Part I
While the exterior of the Poznan train station was not the most pleasant place to hang out while waiting for our Bolt upon arrival, the interior / departure experience wasn't bad at all. A few key shops and cafes to prepare yourself for the journey, if need be.
Train ride to Gdansk is 2h 50m. Ride was comfy and smooth. Got seats facing the right direction. Not sure what happened with my seat selection for the stretch from Poznan to Wrocław. Pretty sure I followed the exact same approach for all three rides. Regardless, we were comfy on the way to Gdansk.
Arrived to a spiffy station and a sunny afternoon in Gdansk.
Our Airbnb was a fairly easy 10 minute walk from the station. But first time in the city, schelpping some bags, we opted for a Bolt.
The Airbnb turned turned out to be pretty solid. Can't say I did it on purpose, but we were in a location that was (1) walkable to the train station (useful for later excursions to be covered in subsequent posts); (2) walkable to the shipyard and Montownia Food Hall (which will also be covered later); and (3) walkable to the main sights of downtown Gdansk. Good job by me. It was also another very pleasant little spot, where it actually feels like an apartment you might live in, similar to the one we had in Wrocław. Not just a staged, mostly empty box with two coffee mugs in the cabinet. We liked this one quite a bit.
We had a couple of hours to grab food and get oriented before our 5pm bike tour of the city. Snapped some initial impression vibe shots.
Digging Gdansk so far and it only got better.
